First Day Arrival - Tuesday, September 8, 2026

Staff supervision begins at 9:05 a.m. Please do not have your child arrive earlier than this time.

At 9:20 a.m. student entry to the school begins as follows:

  • Teachers will have class lists and the teacher name/class code will be identified on signs to locate the teachers on the tarmac.
  • In case of rain, Grade one’s will meet their teachers in the gym.
  • Once your child has found their teacher, they will join the class  line and then make their way into the school.  Parents/caregivers are not permitted entry to the building.
  • Students arriving by bus will be led to their teachers by staff assigned to bus duty.

Grades 2 - 8:

  • Students will  enter the school  or the portapak to locate their classrooms.
  • Grade 7 and 8 classes are in the portapak.
  • Staff will be available in the school to support students in finding their classrooms.

Getting to and From School

By Bus

If your child is eligible for bussing, we highly recommend they start using the bus on the first day.

  • On the first day, bus students will be dropped off in the bus loop and directed to the back of the school; they will enter the building at 9:20 a.m.
  • Before the first day of school, visit School Bus City for your bus stop location, pickup, and drop-off times. Check for updates regularly and arrive at your stop 10 minutes early.
  • Please be patient during the first few weeks as routes and times may take longer than usual.
  • For bussing questions, please email the school at louis.honore.frechette.ps@yrdsb.ca

By Car
  • Use Conley Avenue, on the North side of LHF to drop off your child (ren).  For the safety of all, please follow road signs and city by-laws.
  • Supervision in the school yard begins at 9:05am.
  • There is no entry to the bus loop at the front of the school between 9:05-9:30 am.  It is closed to traffic during this time to allow school buses to arrive and unload students safely.
  •  The Staff parking is not for family use.

Dismissal and End-of-Day Routines

When picking up your child (ren) at the end of the day, use Conley Avenue.  Conley Avenue is the street located on the north side of the LHF property.  There is no access to the staff parking lot or the bus loop from 3:05 – 4:05 pm.

Students who are being picked up by parents/guardians, will exit at the Conley gate.

To ensure a safe and smooth dismissal, please let us know how your child will be getting home by completing the form below. Please submit it by Friday, September 4, at noon.

Important Information and Action Items

Late Arrivals

If your child arrives after the 9:20 a.m. bell, they are considered late. Please have only your child go to the main entrance and use the buzzer. A staff member will sign in your child.

Attendance

Please create an EDSBY account as this is our primary communication tool. If you do not have an account, click the link to get started: Tip Sheet: Creating an Edsby Account

  • If your child will not be attending Louis-Honore Frechette this year, please let us know by calling or emailing the office.
  • If your child will be absent on the first day, you must inform the office in writing of their expected date of return. Unexplained absences can lead to a student being removed from our registry.

Important Reminders for Student Safe Arrival Procedures

As we return from summer holidays, we would like to remind families to report any student absences, especially during the first week of school. We recognize some families may be on extended vacation, transfer schools or move out of the board area and ask that you contact the school to inform office staff during the last week of August or on the first day of school.

As per Board Policy and Procedures #665.0, Safe Arrivals and Departures – Elementary and Secondary Students, if your child’s absence is still not verified even after exhausting different steps to connect with the family, York Regional Police will be contacted and may be dispatched to your residence.

We remind parent(s)/guardian(s) to update the school with all emergency contact information when changes are made. Thank you for your cooperation in reporting student absences.

Contact Information

Please ensure we have your most current contact information on file, including parent/guardian and emergency contacts. Send an email to the school to update this information.

Medication and Health Needs

If your child requires medication, please bring it to the office after morning drop-off on the first day. Ring the front bell, and staff will assist you.

Students with anaphylaxis must bring two EpiPens to school. One will be kept in the office, and one will remain with your child. If there are any concerns about bringing additional EpiPens to the school, please let us know.

Medication must be supplied in the original, clearly labeled container from a registered dispensary. It must include:

  • the student’s name;
  • date of issue;
  • name of the medication;
  • the name of the registered dispensary;
  • the prescribed dosage and frequency;
  • period of use;
  • and the name of the prescribing licensed physician or nurse practitioner.

Prevalent Medical Conditions -Anaphylaxis, Asthma, Diabetes, Epilepsy:

Complete a Health Care Plan: A Health Care Plan is a form that contains individualized information on a student with a Prevalent Medical Condition. It contains preventative strategies to reduce the risk of medical incident, identification of school staff who will have access to the Plan of Care, identification of daily management activities, symptoms, emergency contact information, health care provider input (as appropriate).

Please follow the links below to complete the required forms.  Print or email and send the completed forms to the office or at louis.honore.frechette.ps@yrdsb.ca

These forms should be used for the  health conditions indicated:

Administration of Medication at School

Students are encouraged to be as independent as possible with the administration of medication, recognizing that in some cases support is required.

In requesting assistance from staff members, parents understand that this request is made of non-medically trained persons. We ask that you take all reasonable measures to minimize the need to administer medication at school.

These forms should be completed (please contact the office) if medication is required to be administered in any of the above plans or in circumstances as required:

What to Bring to School

  • Backpack: A sturdy, easy-to-carry backpack with no wheeled bags.
  • School Supplies: The school provides classroom supplies. If you choose to send your child with personal supplies, please label everything.
  • Snacks and Lunch: Use easy-to-open containers. Please remember that all food and snacks must be peanut and nut-free.
  • Boomerang Lunch: All waste, including wrappers and containers, must be returned home.
  • Refillable Water Bottle: Clearly label with your child's name.
  • Change of Clothes: Recommended for younger students. Please place it in a resealable bag with your child's name.
  • Dress for the Weather: Be prepared for outdoor activities.
  • Personal Items: Do not send toys, trading cards, or other personal items from home.
  • Technology: If sending your child to school with a mobile phone it must be turned off and out of sight during the instructional day, including recess and lunch. Non-compliance will result in the phone being held in the main office until dismissal. All classrooms have phones for emergencies.   If you choose to send your child to school with a personal laptop/tablet, it is to support classwork only.  Review YRDSB’s Information Technology Acceptable Use Agreement linked here.

A note about labelling:

We often find jackets and backpacks, sweaters and hoodies, lunch bags and water bottles left behind in the school yard or in the school halls.  These items can more readily be returned to or found by their rightful owner when their name is written on the label inside.

Hot Lunches @ LHF - Fundraising

We are pleased to offer a variety of hot lunch options this year.  This program will be available beginning October.   All funds raised from this program support the school’s fundraising plan.  Further information will be shared with families in the coming weeks.

Allergies Alert!

LHF IS  A NUT-AWARE  SCHOOL

There are staff and students in our school and in your child’s class that have  potentially life-threatening allergies.  They have reactions that can be triggered by peanuts and tree nuts and their by-products.

Please:

  • DO NOT send peanut/tree-nut containing products to school.
  • remind your child that food in their snack or lunch is not to be shared
  • do not send food to school for sharing with classmates (e.g. birthday or other celebrations)

 Your cooperation and understanding of this matter is greatly appreciated.

LHF IS  A FRAGRANCE AND SCENT-FREE ZONE

Staff, students and all other persons who are invited to or who work on Board property are asked to be considerate of those who are sensitive to fragrant chemicals by voluntarily refraining from chemical-based scented products and replacing them with unscented alternatives.

We have staff and students at Frechette who have respiratory issues such that their reactions to chemicals from scents and fragrances can be uncomfortable and trigger reactions such as breathing difficulties, asthma attacks, and severe headaches.  Your attention and consideration of this is appreciated.

Get Involved: School Assistants Needed!

This is a paid position and a great way to be a part of our school community.
